Saqlain Mushtaq withdraws from Multan Sultans Coaching and Ex-ECB performance director David Parsons will be Saqlain Mushtaq’s replacement.
David Parsons, Ex-ECB Performance Director, will replace Saqlain Mushtaq. Saqlain Mushtaq, former spin bowler of Pakistan, was appointed as the spin bowling coach of Multan Sultans ahead of the 9th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Now, he has decided to withdraw himself due to his busy schedule.
Multan Sultans has confirmed that the former ECB performance director David Parsons will be the replacement for Saqlain. Parsons, who worked as the ECB’s national spin bowling coach from 2005 to 2007. He is currently the performance director for England Netball and wanted to take a temporary break from his full-time role.
Excitingly, David Parsons has already worked in Pakistan and has left a positive impression on Multan Sultans owner, Ali Khan Tareen. He has spent a week at the MS Academy, also known as the Ali Tareen Academy. The role of Parsons was to establish player development and was overseeing a group of young spinners in Lodhran, Southern Punjab.
Fortunately, during his stay, he worked with the left-arm wrist spin bowler to enhance the bowling and this was the thing that attracted the owner to re-assign the duty of spin bowling coach. Faisal Akram was the bowler, to whom Parsons worked and he will be back under Parsons’ guidance as a part of the Multan Sultans squad. David Parsons expresses his words about Faisal, “I am especially excited to meet up again with Faisal Akram, with whom I worked in the academy.”
David Parsons will be assisted by Alex Hartley, the former England Women’s spinner. It is great for MS, both coaches are from England and it will help the Multan Sultans. Also, remember that Saqlain Mushtaq was named Multan Sultan’s spin bowling coach in October 2023 and now Saqlain Mushtaq withdraws from Multan Sultans Coaching.
Multan Sultan’s owner and Chief Executive, Ali Khan Tareen, expressed his words on withdrawing by Saqlain, “I was delighted to have Saqlain Mushtaq on board because there is nothing better than having local experience and a name as big as he has. But, his busy schedule is an obstacle for him to work with us. So, we had to put our partnership on hold. We will make use of his experience at some time in the future.”
