Peshawar Zalmi appointed Darren Sammy as the Head coach of its franchise for the upcoming season of HBL Pakistan Super League 2024. Peshawar Zalmi (PZ) announced this news through its official social media account. He was also the former captain and mentor of the Peshawar Zalmi.
The 40-year-old former West Indies all-round player & captain shows his gratitude through a message stating “I am happy to be part of Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 9 and this team is like my family. It was a memorable moment when we won PSL season 2 and I was the captain of PZ. He also said I will try my best to win the title for PZ again.”
Darren Sammy Coaching Career
He retired from all forms of cricket in September 2017, then he started his career in the coaching field. He was named as the head coach of Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2020 and was retained the position for PSL 2021, 2022, and 2023. For PSL season 9, once again, Peshawar Zalmi Appointed Darren Sammy as the Head Coach.
Darren Sammy, the former West Indies Captain, won the T20 International World Cup twice for his country. In May 2023, the coaching responsibility of his home team was handed over to Darren Sammy. He is also the head coach of the T20 team of the West Indies.
Darren Sammy in PSL as a Player
The right-arm all-round player, Darren Sammy, has been part of Peshawar Zalmi since the 1st season of the Pakistan Super League and made an important impact with his significant contribution with the bat & ball. Under his captaincy, PZ managed to win the 2nd season of PSL.
He played 49 matches and scored 691 runs with an average of 25.59 in the Pakistan Super League. The highest score in an inning was 49 and he took 9 wickets with an economy of 9.60.
Darren Sammy is very famous among the Pakistani fans. He was included among those players, who came to Pakistan to play in the playoffs of PSL season 2020 and gave the message of Peaceful Pakistan to the world. After that, cricket returned to Pakistan and different international teams visited Pakistan.
Peshawar Zalmi has to adopt a smart strategy for this season of PSL. Because, from the last few seasons of PSL, PZ didn’t qualify for the Final. In the last season of PSL in 2023, Babar Azam, the greatest batter of all time, joined the Peshawar Zalmi and back the batting side of PZ. Now, the bowling department has the responsibility to show dedication and support to the batting unit.

HBL PSL 9 2024 will start on February 17th, 2024, and will end on March 18th, 2024. It was delayed due to the General Election in Pakistan. PSL 9 venues are also confirmed which includes Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan whereas the Final of the HBL PSL 9 will be played in Karachi.
