In this article, we will explore the Pakistan Super League – HBL PSL 9 2024 Teams. The Pakistan Super League was launched by the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2015 also known as HBL PSL due to its sponsorship. Pakistan Super League – HBL PSL 9 2024 is a T-20 cricket league, initially contested with 5 city-based franchise teams but since 2018 it has been contested between 6 teams till now. The Pakistan Super League is a sole entity where each of the franchises is controlled and owned by the investors.

The ownership of all the franchises was awarded by the management of the Pakistan Super League through a bid system. Around 20 different investors all over Pakistan participated in a bid to buy the rights of PSL franchises. All the initial 5 PSL franchises of the inaugural season were sold for a total price of 93 million US dollars on 3 December 2015 after the formal proposals from seven bidders.

PCB invited bids for the sixth PSL franchise in April 2017 and around 40 parties (national and international) showed their interest in purchasing the rights of the sixth PSL franchise. The sixth franchise Multan from 5 short-listed regions of Pakistan was bought by Schon Properties (Dubai-based real estate developers) in June 2017. Multan became the most expensive franchise of the PSL as its ownership rights were sold for 5.2 million US dollars per year.

However, the rights of the sixth team were terminated by the PCB in November 2018 due to payment issues, and resold its rights to Tareen Group after their successful bid in December 2018 for a price of 6.35 million US dollars for seven years.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultan is the sixth and newly added franchise by the Pakistan Super League. Multan Sultan was not from the initials franchises of the league, it was added by PSL management in 2018. Initially, the franchise of Multan Sultans was sold to Schon Properties (a Dubai-based real estate developer) for a price of 41.6 million dollars for 8 years which makes Multan Sultans the most expensive franchise of the PSL.

However, the rights of the sixth team were terminated by the PCB in November 2018 due to payment issues and resold its rights to Tareen Group after their successful bid in December 2018. The name of this franchise is Multan which is one of the big cities of Punjab province of Pakistan. Multan Cricket Stadium is their home ground in the Pakistan Super League.

In the sixth season of the league, Multan Sultans became the champions of HBL PSL in 2021 for the first time. Multan Sultans played only 3 HBL PSL Finals out of 6 finals they participated, they also managed to qualify for HBL PSL playoffs 3 out of 6 times till HBL PSL 8 2023. Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars is one of the interesting franchises of the Pakistan Super League. Rana brothers (Fawad Rana and Sameen Rana, Businessmen) are the owners of the franchise. The name of this franchise represents Lahore which is the capital city of Punjab province of Pakistan. Gaddafi Stadium Lahore is their home ground in the Pakistan Super League. The Worth of this franchise was 25.1 million US dollars for ten years which makes this franchise the second most expensive franchise of the PSL after Karachi Kings among the initial 5 franchises.

• Lahore Qalandars has reserved their pick for Afghani Spin Bowler, Rashid Khan, fully unavailable for PSL 9.

Lahore Qalandars Track Record of HBL PSL

After their failure in the first four seasons of the Pakistan Super League, they finally managed to win the title for the first time in 2022 and then able to defend their title in 2023. Lahore Qalandars is one of those two teams who won HBL PSL twice and the only team who defended their title which happened in 2023 they are now the current HBL PSL Champion and will go to defend their title among HBL PSL 9 2024 teams.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is their home ground in the Pakistan Super League. Ownership rights of this franchise were bought for a price of 15 million US dollars in December 2015.

Islamabad United is another one of the most consistent franchises of Pakistan Super League. Islamabad United is the team that lifted the title of HBL PSL in the inaugural season in 2016 and became HBL PSL champion for the second time in the HBL PSL 3 in 2018.

IU is one of those two franchises that have won HBL PSL twice. Moreover, Islamabad United played two HBL PSL Finals out of 8 finals so far and won both of them, they also managed to qualify for HBL PSL playoffs 7 out of 8 times till HBL PSL 8 2023. Karachi Kings is another HBL PSL 9 2024 teams, a competitive franchise of the Pakistan Super League. Salman Iqbal (owner of ARY Media Group) is the owner of the Karachi Kings franchise. The name of this franchise represents Karachi which is the capital city of Sindh province of Pakistan and also the biggest city of Pakistan by population. National Bank Cricket Arena, Karachi is their home ground in the Pakistan Super League. Ownership rights of this franchise were sold for a price of 26 million US dollars in December 2015 for 10 years and became the most expensive franchise among the initial five franchises of PSL.

Karachi Kings has been struggling to find their place in the playoffs for the last two seasons. They only managed to win 4 games in 20 matches of their last two seasons.
