The recently retired successful left hand opening batter from Australia David Warner appointed captain of Karachi Kings for PSL 10 and it is announced by the management of Karachi Kings franchise on Monday 24th March 2025. Karachi Kings have removed Shan Masood from the captaincy and the reason is not stated by the franchise which makes it almost a shocking news as the 10th season of Pakistan Super League is just a few days away to begin.
David Warner was never been a part of Pakistan Super League before, he will be participating in the league for the first time after announcing his retirement from international cricket in 2024 and also, he is not picked by any IPL franchise for IPL 2025.
Irrespective of the PSL, David Warner had played test matches for Australia on Pakistan soil. Now, Karachi Kings will have another new captain for yet another PSL season for the fourth time after the appointment of David Warner as their captain for the PSL 10 2025.
David Warner’s Captaincy Record
David Warner has a short captaincy record to his name in his whole career of competitive cricket. David Warner had captained Australia in three One Day Internationals and 9 T20 Internationals only where he won all the ODIs and 8 T20Is for his team. David Warner also captained Sydney Thunders in the Big Bash League and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and become the second Australian player to after Adam Gilchrist to guide an IPL franchise to an IPL title.
The left hand destructive opening batter from Australia, David Warner has represented Australia in 112 tests, 161 ODIs and 110 T20Is at international level and scored nearly 19000 international runs and struck 49 international hundreds in a 15 year long international career. David Warner was also the part of Australia’s winning team in 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cup.
Additionally, David Warner was part of Australia’s T20I World Cup winning team in 2021 as well as the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 winning team.
Karachi Kings are struggling to qualify in the playoffs since PSL-7 2022 and managed to win only eight matches out of 30 matches in last three PSL editions. This will be a great challenge for David Warner to represent and lead a side for the first time who is not performing well from last three years.
However, the Karachi King has a very balance squad for the upcoming 10th edition of Pakistan Super League with a combination of young talent and internationally experienced cricketers from all over the world.
